Sue Donaldson was the leader of Cat Stevens' vocal group for 5 years including 2 world tours & 4 albums.

There's a DVD available of a gig from Cat's 1976 American tour - it's called 'Majikat' and he goes through most of his big hits. Our Sue is singing in the centre of the 3-woman vocal backing band up the back.

Is it true Sue Donaldson was back up vocalist for Cat Stevens on "remember the days of the old school yard" and was also toured in his band

Am I right in thinking that Sue Donaldson is releasing a new album? Certainly would be something to look forward to if she is.

hmm, dunno, there was an album released 2 or 3 years back "Colour of Summer" which included new original material written by Suzanne, two songs by Neil Finn, (one - Ray Of Hope - previously unreleased), another by Tim Finn, and the title track Colour of Summer was written by Suzanne’s son Andy Lynch, from the band ZED.
More recently a couple of months back there was another album released, but this one was with The Lady Killers.

It was The Lady Killers album now I realise I was thinking of. I didn't realise Sue's son Andy was in Zed. Thanks for that info  O0

Just another question about The Chicks :o

It surprises me there is so little on the web about The Chicks. I remember them as being hugely popular.

I remember The Chicks song 'Timothy'. I must surely have heard it on the radio back then to remember it so vividly. Was this released as a single and if so does anyone know what year it was and did it chart well. I have similar questions about Master Jack, which would have been a cover of The Four Jacks and a Jill version from South Africa.

From what I can gather, neither song was released as a single, Timothy appears on their album's "The Best Of The Chicks" and "C'Mon Chicks", Master Jack is also on the "C'Mon Chicks" album.

I vaguely remember them perfoming Timothy on Tele, can't remember the show, probably C'mon.
Nice smooth sound too.

Master Jack is a very nice song too !

I'm thinking also that they weren't released as singles, though I saw on a website yesterday (and now I can't find it!!) that they were both 'massive' hits  ???

I did see the Chicks albums were...

The Sound of the Chicks (LP).
Viking 1967.

2nd album (LP).
Viking 1967.

A Long Time Comin' (LP).
Polydor 1969.

Greatest Hits (LP).
Festival 1970.

Best of the Chicks (LP).
Polydor 1970.

C'mon Chicks (LP).
Polydor 1970.

First of hopefully many interviews I want to do with some of my 1960's music friends....In this podcast I talk to Judy Hindman (nee Donaldson) from The Chicks, it's about 15 minutes duration.

Judy is great to talk to, down to earth she tells it like it was with no embellishments. I'll be doing a series of these, calling them "15 minutes of NZ fame". On the shortlist so far I have Glyn Tucker (Gremlins), Gerard Smith (Rumour) and David Curtis, Shane will be in there somewhere too and anyone else I can put my microphone in front of.

Not sure about any MP3's, but The Hucklebuck is on the CD "The Very Best Of The Chicks" here. (http://www.newzealandcds.com/products.asp?product_id=465) It's a very nice CD.
I haven't seen "Puppet On A String" by them.
Will keep my eyes peeled.

Title: Re: The Chicks
Post by: goodiesguy on July 11, 2010, 10:05:56 pm
The 3 songs by The Chicks i am after are

"the hucklebuck" (i have a very poor quality 32kbps mp3 of it)
"puppet on a string" (i have a 15 second clip of them peforming it on c'mon, thats it)
"you won't forget me" (once again,a 15 second clip on c'mon)

i don't want to buy the cd as i only want these 3 songs. they are hard to find. i know i'm a bit rude about asking for them for free in mp3 format, but i don't want to have spend ages looking for these 3 song. i have spent half a year looking for these on google to no avail. most people would have given up by now but i haven't. they will only be for personal listening. and my promise is that i will not put them on the internet or share them.)

i'm sort of begging but i really love these songs and want to hear them. i'm 14 and love 50's and 60's music and wish to hear more 60's nz songs. i have got the ray columbus 2cd definitive collection that i can send in mp3 format as a thank you if any of you like.

i just really want those 3 songs badly

I now have all the songs that i wanted by the chicks on cd on 2 separate kiwi music compilations.

except, i still dont have "you wont forget me". I couldn't find the very best of the chicks cd in JB-HI FI and i really dont want to buy it just for that one song when i have pretty much all the rest. so an mp3 of "you wont forget me" would be very appreciated. that's all i ask, as i really dont want to buy another cd just for that one song.

Please ignore all my old posts.

I have found all the songs i was looking for.

I need to know something though.

in their song "Timothy", who is singing what? as their voices are very similar and it's confusing me which voice belongs to which chick.

here's the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5v7NOz6pqZI (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5v7NOz6pqZI)
I know that Suzanne is the blonde one, and Judy is the dark haired one. But which voice belongs to which?

At the moment, im guessing that judy sings the first lines on Timothy, as the second voice sounds alot like the voice on "You wont forget me" which has suzanne singing quite alot.

Some more of my uploads on my new channel (my old account was terminated :( )

This one has the audio taken straight from the original viking LP that I was able to find. It therefore doesn't have the awful noises that are heard on the cd versions.

Once again, here they are doing "You Wont Forget Me" I apologize that the start is slightly out of sync, but it's a middle of the night. Also, this time the song is sourced from the best of disc which I was able to get a hold of, not a low bitrate mp3. The cd also was particulary bass heavy on this track, so I gave it a "restoration" and more properly evened out the sound as a whole.

From her 1973 album FRIENDS WITH YOU, Suzanne (Sue Lynch) sings Cat Stevens THE WIND. Produced by Bruce Lynch, the album features great New Zealand musicians Michael Harvey, Frank Gibson Jnr, Billy Karaitana, Dick Hopp along with Bruce.
