Just wondering if the SIMPLE IMAGE ever authored their own material? Undecided

Their album was put out on CD by EMI a couple of years ago and the CD also contains the A and B sides of all their singles - and they all seem to be covers. They were contemporaries of the Avengers and Fourmyula and their lack of writing ability may have something to do with the fact the they only made one album whilst the Avengers (who could write a bit), made 2 + a live LP and the Fourmyula (who could write a lot) made 3 plus a live LP and an unreleased album. Having said that, there's some fantastic stuff on the Image LP though.

Yes! Finally, I can add something to this topic.

From the looks of things, they didn't write anything of theirs, although the writers for All Join In and St. Teresa are unknown.

Who wrote 'Little Bell That Cried'? I just have the name 'Bua'

I have the Album Spinning Spinning Spinning, it's very good.
Walk On and The Little Bell That Cried are very nice indeed and of course everything about Spinning Spinning Spinning is just sensational !
Their version of Love Of The Common People is NEAT.
All Join In and Sister Theresa were never released.

The CD vinylsol refered to is available here

Front Art By: DES BOVEY

Marhope, I see that Ron Gascoigne was a member of Simple Image after being in your group Insect in the mid 60's for six months too.

Hi and yes Ron(Cass) joined our band when Les Gruebner left to continue his schooling
Cass was a cook in the army and was a great bass player,a little older than us (3 years is a lot when you are a teenager!)
He had this rearlly strong- high- harmony voice and used so well with the Simple Image.
The last time I heard of him he was in Dubbo NSW running a recording studio all the musos there remember him
He also won Tatts Lotto way back in Australia!
Cheers M

Lead guitarist Harry Leki, is the uncle of Aussie league player Dene Halatau.

Apparently Harry is/was in Auckland, does anyone know if he is still active ?

Another uncle of Dene is Feau Halatau who was drumming for the Radars.

The Simple Image were a great little band in the studio & on stage and used to play regular gigs at the Hutt Valley Youth Club ( also known as the Taita Youth Club ) and a few of the many youth clubs in the greater Wellington area.
The were originally called The Vaqueros ( which i think is Spanish for bandits ) and i used to drive them to and from gigs when i worked for U.B.A promotions ( Tom McDonald ) in 1966.
I think Barry Leef married Erana Clark and they still perform in Sydney ( Barry was from Blenheim, not Wellington ).
Cheers.

Here's a couple of clips from Aussie band Supermarket, which included both Barry Leef and Erana Clark. (mid 80's)
